Gone

I dedicate this poem to my father.

When a bad man tries to be good one,
he think’s that it’s best to be gone.
cuz’ if he only causes pain,
and it’s always the same,
it’d be best for him to be movin’ along.

When I think in the night,
I’d hate to see you gone.
But at least,
you don’t suffer where you are.
It was hard for me,
but it was harder for you,
Drugs offer no mercy
and dragged you so far.

We bonded for a moment,
and that moment was gone.
But soon, I’ll see you again.
You were a long lost father,
and a prodigal son.
And for a moment,
you were my friend.

When a bad man tries to be good man,
he think’s that it’s best to be gone.
cuz’ if he only causes pain,
and it’s always the same,
it’d be best for him to be movin’ along.

Years of struggle,
you were just a shell
of the man that you used to be.
But blood is blood,
and thicker than water.
They’d say that you
looked just like me.

When a bad man tries to be good man,
he think’s that it’s best to be gone.
cuz’ if he only causes pain,
and it’s always the same,
it’d be best for him to be movin’ along.

You didn’t have to,
but once you were gone,
I sat down and
I wrote you this song.
