Rounds

Everything this week
just looks the same.
Drive by the same houses
to receive the same blame
at work. . .
one more round through the game.

You came home for dinner,
it starts the same way.
A little bit different,
but still tastes the same
again…
one more round through the game.

But if I could change
your habit,
even one night,
I’ve got a list for you,
circle what you’d like.

Would you prefer a movie,
just you and me,
Or drink some hot chocolate
walking down a snowy street?
Would you prefer some shopping
at the mall,
or hanging some pictures
up on our walls?
There’s plenty we can do,
to change this mundane.
What would you prefer
to change up our game?

We sat down after dinner
to watch T.V.
But nothing was on
that could please you and me
tonight…
one more round through the game.

We go to wash up
then we go to bed.
Tell me, do we feel alive?
Or do we feel dead?
again…
one more round through the game.

But if I could change
your habit,
even one night,
I’ve got a list for you,
circle what you’d like.

Would you prefer a movie,
just you and me,
Or drink some hot chocolate
walking down a snowy street?
Would you prefer a poem
that I wrote?
I could put it to some chords
and sing a few notes.

We’ll go out for pizza
down the street.
Tell me, baby,
what is it you need?
There’s plenty we can do,
to change this mundane.
What would you prefer
to change up our game?

Ask her to do something special.
